How to drive a manual
Every movement you see is driven by a real-time physics model of the engine, clutch friction, gearbox synchronizers and the car's mass.
Controls
- A / ← Clutch pedal
- S / ↓ Brake pedal
- D / ↑ Gas pedal
- Shift + pedal key: partial press (clutch holds at the bite point)
- Mouse: drag the gear knob through the H-gate
- I Ignition H Handbrake
- 1–5 Camera: overview, engine, clutch, gearbox, differential
- X X-ray L Labels F Power flow T Slow-mo P Pause
Pull away
- Press I to start the engine (in neutral).
- Hold A: the clutch disengages.
- Drag the knob up-left into 1. Watch the synchro ring glow as it matches speeds.
- Release the handbrake with H.
- Hold a little gas (Shift+D) and let the clutch up slowly: tap A or hold Shift+A at the bite point.
- Once the car rolls, release the clutch completely.
Release the clutch too fast and the engine stalls. Shift without the clutch and the gears grind.
